We’re Back!

Making a movie is a lot like learning a language.

Remember Spanish in high school? How much of it do you actually remember now? Or more importantly, how much of it have you forgotten? When you learn a language, if you don't use it every day, you'll forget words, you'll forget grammar, you'll forget conjugation (oh man, I hated conjugation). If you go live in Spain for a year, you'll learn the language almost instantly because you'll be using it every day.

Lesson of the day? You need to keep shooting to become fluent.

That said, I should mention that Peter and I are back. Yes, it's been nearly 7 months since our last episode. Where the heck have we been? It's quite a long story, but here's the gist:

Remember back when we "quit" our jobs? (watch the intro in this episode) Well, we figured that would be a good time to start up our own production company. We were right, though we went through some pretty hard times and ended up having to sell some of our equipment and software. We're almost back on track now. We're shooting actor demo reels and are about to embark on doing music videos with our friend Vicente.

As for our website, we were happy with the way it previously looked and functioned, but we weren't happy with Movable Type. So, I sat down for a couple weeks and designed this new WordPress theme in my spare time. If you look through the archives, every single episode is now available to watch. Just don't go back too far, our earliest stuff is pretty awful.

It's been a long summer. We got to work with and meet so many great people. Jaemin Yi, Mike Sun, Andrew Oh, and Teri Whittaker just to name a few. As a "practice short" with Mike and Jaemin, we took our 5D Mark II to LACMA and shot "Mike & Jaemin Make a Movie":

Mike and Jaemin Make a Movie

Our goal for the summer was for each of us to shoot a short film per month. It didn't end up happening, but we had a goal for ourselves and we pushed each other and had meetings and for a while it really felt good because we were actually doing something.

If you're a filmmaker, the best thing you can do is collaborate with other people. If you already collaborate with someone, find new people to collaborate with. It really gets you motivated. I actually wrote an entire script, cast actors, found a location and shot part of a short film called "Pizza":

Pizza: A Short Romance

Anyway, Peter and I are back for good. But don't expect too many updates just yet. We have a lot going on at the moment, I'm sure you guys understand.

, :sean:
