Friday Vlog 12: Merlin Operator

I took NyQuil, so I'm a bit out of it right now, but I'll do my best to make this cohesive.

I just want to say that I'm very grateful for this community. I've been thinking about it a lot lately. We may not be as popular as Philip Bloom or Wong Fu, but that's not what we're about. I like to think of us as this little niche of a niche. We're filmmakers struggling to make it in the filmmaking world.

It isn't easy keeping this site up, as I'm sure you realize. And it's becoming even more cumbersome the more we work at making all this our full-time job. But I really like the idea of Take Zer0 growing as we grow. Our three year anniversary is coming up in a few months. Maybe we'll do something fun. We need more of a community aspect again. We need to bring back the forum, get more people vlogging with us, shoot more short films.

I don't know where I'm going with all this. My vlog was about our Steadicam Merlin. I recently realized that ours wasn't perfectly balanced so I did some research, re-read the manual, and realized that our Merlin wasn't actually even close to being properly balanced. Now it is. And it feels like having a new toy again. I want to go out and shoot another bokake, put it to good use in a music video. Darn this stupid cold.

Wow this looks really great. The aliasing shows a bit more than the usual though. I wonder why. Get well soon :)

It still seems to drift off to the right way to much, angling(SP?) it up on the left

Great little video, Sean! I love how it looks like you’re floating around. Can’t wait to see what else you do with the Merlin.

Hey, you know what would be cool? A short clip of either you or Peter using the steadicam so everybody can see what it looks like when you’re holding it and moving about. Maybe you could embed the video that you’re capturing so we’re seeing both videos at once. Just a thought. Peace!

Your words inspire me. I always wanted to make films but, I just never really did anything about it. I would edit short little gag videos of me and my friends and youtube them but that was about it. I came across you and Peter a few months ago and ever since then I have become immersed in trying to learn everything I can about film making. You guys seemed so…. approachable I guess is the word I’m looking for. I remember this one time by my job these guys were filming a commercial for one of those coin star machines, I was excited to see their equipment. I got close so that I could see, but they just kept giving me these looks that just screamed GET OUT OF HERE NERD! I asked one question, I asked what kind of tripod they were using and they made believe that they didn’t here me, it was obvious that they did though. I want to thank you guys for everything that you’ve done, and for all of the knowledge that you so generously give out without asking for anything in return. Thank you for being friendly and for making everyone feel welcome when they arrive at Take Zero. Speaking of community, I was thinking that it would be cool for your three year anniversary if everyone sent in a short clip of them saying hello, or Take Zero, or something like that and you guys could do something really cool with it and post it on that day, just an idea. Well thanks again Sean.

  • Yeah, I thought it was leaning a little to the left a few videos back…but glad you love TakeZer0 (psst…a lot of us do too) ;)

    Keep going, and feel better…
