If I'm converting things right, you found one thats around $2600USD, where you can get the camera for around 1500-1700USD without a lens, if you look hard enough, check ebay, but make sure you get something with the manufacturers warranty.

Default Equipment

As for me, I have two Panasonic 3CCD MiniDV cameras, two regular MiniDV cameras, and a bunch of old 8mm video, 16 millimeter, 8 millimeter, and Super8 film cameras.
I end up getting new stuff, without getting rid of the old ones.
Oh, well...

@Christopher I think you need to watch this:

"CITY OF LAKES" The Official Trailer from PACIFIC PICTURES on Vimeo.

Essentially, a couple groups of wedding videographers joined forces and made a movie. Shot ENTIRELY on the Canon 5D Mark II and 7D. At least in this compressed, internet-res version, it's pretty much indistinguishable from film.

Should be enough to convince anyone that these cameras are the way of the future. The way of the future. The way of the future. /theaviator

As or post, I built my system and took the extra cash and got Adobe Master Collection. 4tb of hard drive space, 12 gigs of ram, 2 HD monitors... i love it. Though i still get a lag in After Effects when rendering.

Ill dive into audio here shortly. No mics, or anything. I got a guy I call in when ever i need that.
Holy crap Gautch! 12 GB!!! Wow. I built my system too, but that was like 3 years ago. 4GB RAM and 3 x 500GB internal storage, 1 TB external. Was a bit respectable at the time. Probably time to upgrade

As for equipment, I have a Panasonic NV-GS230 which I still occasionally use, but I mostly shoot with the Canon T1i (planning to upgrade to a T2i very soon) + 18-55mm kit lens & 50mm f1.8 prime.

Should probably get a decent lens.

Try checking out the latest issue of Creative COW magazine, available on their site... they have much discussion about various DSLR's, and much about Canon.

I didn't notice that the first time I read it. I think RAM really helps a lot, especially when dealing with HDSLR footage. It takes Peter nearly twice as long to render things as it does for me. We have the exact same motherboard and processor. He has 4 GB RAM, I have 8.

Any idea what you're going to get?

I second this. Creative COW is great. It's one of the few email lists I'm subscribed to that I actually look forward to and read

Well, I have a Kodak Zi8 which I use for brainstorming, playing about and generally keeping in my backpack to whip out at a moments notice. It actually takes amazingly good video provided there is decent lighting. It needs a second (or third) battery though. Ebay here I come...

I have a lavalier mic and a stereo baby shotgun which can both be connected to the Zi8 too. I got given a battery-powered 4-channel ex-BBC mic/line mixer too which I need to have a play with...
I also have a gorilla-pod, a couple of desktop-tripods, a 5ft tripod, and my home-made dolly, track, & semi-completed jib arm.

So yeah, no decent glass or anything here...
Move along pleaseħ!

RAM is really what make the difference here. My latest project has all been shot on Nikon d90, and that 12 gigs, makes it insanely fast to edit with.
Here is small still:

If your looking to update your system or buy/build a new one RAM is where I would recommend putting your money 1st.
